MARY POPPINS: I Think That I Shall Never See A Thing As Lovely As A Tree

As we continue looking at MARY POPPINS backgrounds, the lush beauty of the artwork continues to impress. When Mary watches Bert dance to the left side of the screen, his charismatic performance takes precedence over the great detail in the background. Now we can have a look at the dense greenery, including marshes and this lovely weeping willow tree. Included here is Mary looking left with Bert retouched out. Now we can see and appreciate the detail. Finally, we see a quite different rendering of the area, which includes more flowers at the base of the tree and a "real world" clothing rack prop included.

This is a wonderful example of color shifting scene to scene. The first has a definite green hue, while the secondary view has leaned decidedly towards blue. Disney artists expertly manipulate color palettes to enhance the emotional feeling of scenes, and also to freshen the sections at various edit points to tantalize the eyes. It works beautifully.

With backgrounds like these, no wonder that it's Mary that we love!
